Gender Construct in Roma Population (Participatory Research Project)

Gender issues in Roma population are one of the most important factors influencing overall Roma community development. Recognizing that, this research project was developed in partnership between Foundation Partnerships in Health (FPH) and NSHC, after previous successful joint work within the Western Balkan Program to Fight HIV/AIDS.

Within that scope, FPH and NSHC had gained significant insight into the needs of Roma population in Vojvodina.

According to Gender and Development (GAD) concept, women and men are equal but have different approach to development, therefore both men and women are taking part in long-term strategies for changing the relation between power and control over social, economic and political relations and resources. Power relations in social hierarchy are in the focus of this concept, and the goal is to empower women and men to change these relations, in order to equally share responsibility for development, or lack of development. The aim of GAD concept is equality and division of responsibilities, power and decisions related to development so that sustainability is achieved.
