Besides Novi Sad, part of the project activities will be organized in less developed areas such as Bujanovac, Leskovac, Vranje and Aradac.

Prevention of Substance Abuse and Self-destructive Behavior among Youth

During 2008, 2009 and 2010 NSHC has been implementing the project "Prevention of Substance Abuse and Self-destructive Behavior among Young People'', supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Serbia. Its aim was to contribute to reducing the risk of substance abuse and self-destructive behavior, and thus development of healthy lifestyles and enhancing the health of young people.

Promotion, Development and Improvement of Capacities for Non-Formal Education of Youth

Young people in Serbia do not have enough oportunities for non-formal education, especially young people from marginalized groups, although non-formal education has been recognized as one of the most efficient ways for gaining practical skills and knowledge needed for active participation in a society. This form of education is particularly significant for inclusion of young people in labor market, obtaining the needed qualifications, development of entrepreneurial spirit, decrease of unemployment and avoiding economic dependence.

Unemployment rate of young people (48%) is more than twice larger from already high general unemployment rate in Serbia (21.6% at the end of 2006). On the labor market 55% of the registered persons are those without any working experience, mostly young people who remain long-term unemployed before they get their first job. Inevitably they loose motivation and self-confidence, become passive and dependent from their parents' help. Young people from marginalized groups - Roma, refugees, internally displaced persons, persons with disabilities - are in the most difficult situation when trying to find a job.

Starting from December 2007, with the support from the Serbian Ministry of Youth and Sport, NSHC has been implementing a project ''Promotion, Development and Improvement of Capacities for Non-Formal Education of Youth''. With this project NSHC intends to promote non-formal education and its practical use in solving existential problems of youth, especially in the area of employment and economic independence. This will be achieved through promotional activities and information sharing among the target group about the role and importance of non-formal education. At least 156 young people shall directly be supported with trainings from IT skills and life skills. 30 representatives of local communities in Vojvodina shall be informed and motivated to support non-formal education programs in their communities. Around 15,000 persons will be encompassed with promotional and media activities.
