| A Found Friend |
“A Found Friend” project has been implemented for four years
in Serbia, Kosovo, Albania, Montenegro and
Macedonia. It started in 2001 as a joint project of
non-governmental organizations
including Group 484 from Beograde, ADI from
Gostivar, AFCR from Tirana, ADI from
Pristina and Anima from Kotor. The main goal
of the project was to promote reconciliation and
a peaceful co-existance
at a local level. Until the second half of
2004,
youths who had grown up in ethnically mixed
places in Albania, Montenegro, Kosovo and Southern
Serbia had been meeting
each other, overcoming prejudices and
creating joint actions for
the improvement of their local communities.
Many seminars, workshops, actions and exhibitions
were held, a movie was made, several bulletins were
published and also a CD about the project
was created. 80 high school teachers and
around 1,200
teenagers from 17 cities participated in these
activities. The project evaluation showed that the
participants in the project became more tolerant and
more open for cooperation, and the level of national
and social distance, conformism and
authoritativeness amongst them decreased
significantly. |
| Since November 2004, NSHC took over the
implementation of ''A Found Friend'' in Serbia from
Group 484, and included 129 students in the project
from four secondary schools from Vojvodina: ''Karlovačka
gimnazija'' from Sremski Karlovci, Saobraćajna škola
''Pinki'' from Novi Sad, Škola za dizajn ''Bogdan
Šuput'' from Novi Sad and Poljoprivredna škola ''Dr
Siniša Stanković'' from Futog. 144 workshops have been held (12 workshops for 12 groups) during which
human and adolescents' rights, non-violent conflict
resolution, justice and other issues were discussed.
"A Found Friend" project, being an important
regional initiative, will continue to be implemented
in the forthcoming period with an aim of: further
contributing
to the
inclusion of the schools in community actions;
strengthening
relations between families, youths
and schools; the
improvement of public awareness and; the
provision of support for such actions from the local
authorities. |

The First Issue
of “A Word More” Bulletin
The main subject of a bulletin published by NSHC, with a new
name and a new design, 'A
Word More', is inclusive model in education. Persons with
handicap and Roma population are groups who are often
excluded from educational system, and that was the reason
for choosing this subject for the first number of this
bulletin. We also tried to provide answers on how to improve
situation when it comes to education of these vulnerable
groups. NSHC wishes to create an enabling framework
for successful inclusion of young people, especially from
marginalized groups, into the world of adults. The bulletin
was supported by the Secretariat for Education and Culture
of the Vojvodinian Executive Council, and through them the
bulletin will be distributed to all secondary level schools
in Vojvodina. The bulletin was published within 'A Found
Friend' project, financed by the Royal Danish Ministry of
Foreign Affairs within the Neighborhood Programme, through
SEE RAN Network.

The
third issue of A Found Friend
bulletin was issued in June 2006.
High school students, members of the editorial
office, and journalists, have learnt that working on
a bulletin production is not an easy task to do. The
time has come when an initial enthisuasm should be
replaced with a thorough work and investment of
siginificant amount of energy. Some members of the
editorial office continued to work, some of them had
difficulties in keeping up with the demands. Some of
them even gave up. And that is nothing unusual. That
is what happens in life; realization of an idea
requires hard work and effort. In the meantime, we
have improved our capacities with some new members
and new, fresh ideas and articles. A training on
team buiding and strenghtening was organized for the
members of the editorial office. They are now more
ready for the work ahead.

The
second issue of A Found Friend Bulletin is infront
of you. The editorial office is consisted of NSHC
staff, teachers and students of four high schools:
„Bogdan Šuput“ Novi Sad;
„Pinki“ Novi Sad; „Karlovačka gimnazija“ Sremski
Karlovci and
„Dr.
Siniša Stanković“ Futog. In 2005,
students from these schools participated in
workshops with aim to promote values of a democratic
society. In February 2006, they also went through a
training on journalism skills, during which they
gained basic knowledge on how to produce a magazine
for youth. That was where they learned how to
present news, how to write an article, how to make a
photo suitable for publishing... At the meetings of
the editorial office, the contents of the bulletin
were discussed, having in mind the interests of
young people. At the same time, we wanted to make a
valuable onformation and educational publication,
which would remain interesting enough for the young
people. Most of the articles were written by
students themselves, with supervision and support of
NSHC staff. |
